Insurance

Having proper insurance is just as important as having your finances straight, if not more important. Insurance may be difficult to understand at times, but we are here to help you sort it out. Here are a couple scenarios to consider if you think you can save money by not having insurance:
  • No Auto Insurance: You get into an accident, even a little fender-bender. The police are called and they ask for your insurance. Since you have no insurance, you are slapped with a huge fine and your drivers license is taken away for a year. Should have had insurance!
  • No Home Owners Insurance: Typically, your mortgage company will not lend to you unless you have the proper insurance in place. Let’s say you get away with having no insurance and a storm hits. Your house gets knocked to the ground and you can’t live there anymore. You don’t have the cash to fix it and now you are paying for the mortgage along with rent for a temporary place. You are running out of money. You try to sell your house, but nobody will buy it! You can’t even get enough to pay off the mortgage. You have to let the house foreclose or file for bankruptcy.
  • No Health Insurance: Most of the time, your employer will cover your health insurance, but if they don’t, you still should have coverage. Let’s say that you don’t have health insurance. Your son gets in an accident while riding his bike to school. The cost of the ambulance, a few nights stay at the hospital and some physical therapy quickly add up to $30,000. You can’t pay the bills off any have to file for bankruptcy.
  • No Life Insurance: You work and your spouse takes care of the kids. You lose your life in a freak accident. Your spouse is left with the responsibility to make a living and take care of the kids, along with paying off your final expenses. Not a great way to go.
Clearly having the right insurance in place is key to avoiding financial hardships. Sometimes people can get too much or too little insurance. Full coverage on your 1985 Honda Civic that you bought for $400 or a million-dollar life insurance policy when you are single with no kids might be a little excessive.

In the following sections, we help you figure out just how much insurance is right for you. We also help you understand how the insurance companies determine your premium, so you can get the best deal on your much-needed insurance.
